How can Nanaimo be home to thriving people, in a thriving community, while respecting the wellbeing of all people and the health of the planet? This was the key question during the City’s coordinated strategic policy review of six plans led by Lanarc. This intensive process took place from 2020-2022.
REIMAGINE NANAIMO was a comprehensive planning and engagement process that helped the Nanaimo community create a vision and road map to guide community building for the next 25 years. With over 12,500 participants engaged over three phases, the process showed what matters to the people of Nanaimo today, and what’s important as the City navigates rapid changes ahead.
The City Plan integrates and serves as the City’s Official Community Plan; Parks, Recreation, Culture and Wellness Plan; Transportation Plan; Active Mobility Plan; Climate Action and Resiliency Plan; and Accessibility and Inclusion Plan. This plan has since been adopted by council to set the stage for Nanaimo’s strategic development efforts.
